Reading In Motion evaluates its programs in a number of different ways. Participating students are assessed using the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) at the beginning and end of each session. These grade-level appropriate assessments measure students’ reading abilities and greatly help to determine the effectiveness of the curriculum. In addition, classroom teachers, principals and reading coordinators fill out surveys and open-ended questionnaires that provide feedback on the program as a whole. Finally, Reading In Motion teaching artists and program staff meet two to three times a month to discuss the progress of individual programs in detail.
