Our Reading Methods

Opening Doors Through Reading

Our Curriculum

At Reading In Motion, we use the power of the arts to spark a love of reading in children from Pre-K through 1st grade.  Through creative, arts-based activities grounded in the Science of Reading, children naturally expand their vocabulary and language skills by encountering new words and ideas in meaningful contexts. Every lesson becomes an adventure—captivating young learners while deepening their understanding of language and setting them on the path to lifelong literacy.

Music

Through the power of music, children embrace the science of reading. Songs and melodies help young learners grasp the sounds and structures of words, enhancing phonemic awareness and auditory discrimination. This melodic immersion not only makes learning enjoyable but also solidifies foundational reading skills.

Movement

Our curriculum incorporates movement, turning traditional learning into a dynamic experience. By using physical activities, children can better understand and remember what they learn. Movement helps in reinforcing letter recognition, word formation, and overall comprehension, making reading a full-body experience.

Interactive

Interactive activities keep children focused, motivated, and excited to learn. By capturing attention through movement, music, and creativity, lessons become lively and enjoyable. This approach reduces behavior issues, as students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences that channel their energy in positive ways.

Science

As young learners dive into reading, they build confidence and pride in their abilities. By blending the Science of Reading with music, movement, and drama, children connect with literacy in meaningful ways—laying a joyful, lasting foundation for reading success.

Serving students in Pre-K through First Grade

Start Early

Early literacy changes everything. Research shows that when children are reading at grade level by third grade, 80% will stay on track for the rest of their school years. But if they fall behind by the end of first grade, most will never catch up—limiting not just their reading, but their success in every subject. By third grade, more than 85% of learning comes through reading. Without it, students struggle to grasp math, science, social studies, and beyond. Reading isn’t just another skill—it’s the foundation that unlocks every other part of a child’s education and future.

Be Engaging

The arts make reading come alive. When children sing, move, and create, their confidence grows and their love of learning shines through. What looks like joy in the classroom is also backed by powerful research—integrating the arts into early literacy doesn’t just boost engagement, it accelerates learning. Studies show that music and creative expression strengthen reading, language, and critical thinking skills while motivating students to keep growing. By tapping into children’s natural love for rhythm, melody, and imagination, we open new pathways in the brain, spark curiosity, and give them the tools to become strong, confident readers for life.

Support Teachers

Teachers deserve support as much as students. That’s why our program includes dedicated coaching that empowers teachers to grow as leaders, not just within the Reading In Motion curriculum, but in their classrooms as a whole. Our coaches partner with teachers side by side—reviewing data, tailoring instruction, modeling songs and activities, and offering consistent guidance every step of the way. This collaboration builds teacher confidence, strengthens instruction, and ultimately accelerates student growth. For added flexibility, we also provide a fully virtual teacher license program, ensuring every educator can access the tools and support they need to help students thrive.

Use Data

Every child’s progress matters. At Reading In Motion, we measure success not by activities completed, but by the growth of each student. Our arts-based curriculum is grounded in research and paired with ongoing assessments that track progress throughout the school year. This data-driven approach allows teachers to adjust instruction to meet every child’s unique needs, ensuring no student is left behind. By combining creativity with accountability, we deliver measurable, replicable results that change the trajectory of a child’s education.
